All gardens are paradise, but some are more than others. Because in giving shape to an obsession they attempt to harmonize the hand of man with that of time. These gardens are the museum-parks; a hybrid mixture of freedom of artistic expression and the statutory rights of nature. In a book published by Loggia dé Lanzi, “The museum-parks of contemporary sculpture”, art historian Antonella Massa takes a look at six of them which have the common thread of being artistically avant-garde. Four of these are located in Tuscany, between Santomato and Carmignano, and in Maremma near Capalbio. In between, ideally and geographically, is the annual exhibition of contemporary sculpture presented at the Leonini of San Quirico d’Orcia, an intermediate stage of the summer itinerary “Alice on the road” from one wondrous park to the next –
